ruzuzu commented on the word The Monty Hall Problem
So you're on a game show, and Monty Hall tells you that there are three doors in front of you. Behind one door is a car. Behind the other two doors there are goats. You want the car, and you pick door No. 1. Monty Hall then tells there's a goat behind door No. 3, and he offers you the chance to switch from door No. 1 to door No. 2. Should you change your answer?
Also, this would be a great name for a band.

Ahhh, the age-old 3 doors, 2 goats and a car conundrum.
The answer is: blue -- no, green *aaaargh*
Wait, that was another Monty altogether.

bilby commented on the word The Monty Hall Problem
I offer you the chance to switch from curtains to horizontal blinds that, despite the pleasing film noir effect, do tend to accumulate dust and/or provide a near fatal attraction to your cat.

dontcry commented on the word The Monty Hall Problem
I'll take horizontal blinds, plantation style, for $200.

First, I want to see the goat behind door #3. Trust no one, especially Monty Hall. Second, statistically speaking, I should accept Hall's offer to switch from door #1 to door #2. If I do not change my initial decision, I still have the same 1 in 3 chance to win the car; whereas, if I switch to door #2 I have increased my chance to win the car by another 1/3. But, statistics lack the human element of the "gut" feeling, so I'm sticking with door #1.

ruzuzu commented on the word The Monty Hall Problem
Exactly. Who's to say that goat isn't worth more than the car?
August 3, 2011
dontcry commented on the word The Monty Hall Problem
I think the value has to include a sustainability quotient. If the goat is a lactating female, you've got a bit more of a fair fight on your hands. If you've purchased a tiny nub of goat cheese recently, you get my drift.

Still and all, I'd take the plantation shutters. They're a timeless fashion statement.

I am still wary of the tiger-go-at-ya door(s)! That would clear the hall!

yarb commented on the word The Monty Hall Problem
You should change your answer to door #3, because a goat is better than a car.
Goats have personalities, cars don't. And as dontcry notes, you can get cheese out of a goat, but I never heard of anyone getting cheese out of a car.

I thought the Hall was already cleared by Bilby's cargoat.

Stick with door number 1. Definitely. And be a sport about it. Nobody likes a sore loser. Especially a goat.
